an arched infill extension to a beautiful shoreham-by-sea home
The proposal aims to build upon the existing building to achieve a high quality, well designed space that maximises the amount of usable area.
In the Shoreham-by-Sea conservation area, the materiality of this proposal is designed to be sympathetic to the existing building, whilst adding to its charm and character.
This proposal draws its design cues from a traditional arched lead roof, extruded along the narrow side passage creating a traditional yet distinctive form with a reclaimed arch window framing the view at the end. The design uses traditional techniques to create a contemporary internal living space.
With the visible new walls constructed from the reclaimed bricks removed during the opening up of the side facade, the proposal will utilise a timber framed, semi-arched leaded roof designed to match the geometry of a reclaimed arched timber window that will fill the new rear wall and frame the garden.
